Head Coach Karen Smidt has been coaching Track & Field and Cross Country at Brighton High School for over 20 years and teaching at BHS for 24. She has earned 17 Coach of the Year awards in both sports and has coached one or more athletes to the State Meet from both teams every year since becoming a coach.
Smidt ran XC & Track for the University of Northern Colorado where she holds the 10k D2 Track record for the Bears. She is still an active runner who runs ultramarathons (50+ mile races), but her highest honor is being a mom to two wonderful and successful daughters and a nana to two adorable grandbabies. She lives in Brighton with her husband. |
Coach McKenna UhingCoach McKenna is a valued BHS Alum and has coached Cross Country at Eagle Ridge High School. This will be her first year coaching at BHS.
She attended Regis College on a Cross Country & Track scholarship. 
Coach Corinne FranzCoach Franz has been coaching and teaching at BHS for two years but has been coaching for 8 years.
She attended and competed at DePaul University in Wisconsin. |
Coach Kevin Gallardo-FranklinThis is Coach Kevin's 1st year of coaching Sprints and Freshman Football at BHS.
He grew up in Colorado and runs Kulture Performance, a speed and conditioning gym in Brighton. Coach Brian EverettCoach Brian Everett has been coaching jumps at BHS for 4 years. He has an extensive coaching career that spans many years.
Coach Everett lives in Thornton with his wife and two young daughters. |
Coach Melina MichieThis is Coach Melina Michie's 3rd year of coaching at BHS and she is a Bulldog Track & Field alum who attended ERA as a student.
She attended Emporia State University on scholarship as a hurdle specialist and participated multi-events. She lives in Brighton with her dogs and horses. 
Coach Miguel (Miggy) MartinezThis is Coach Miggy Martinez's third year at BHS. He is also a BHS Alum who graduated in 2015 and went on to run hurdles for Mesa State College in Grand Junction.
